THE GENEALOGY OF GRACE

When we read the genealogy of Jesus, it is tempting to skip over the names and move on to the next chapter. Yet Matthew was not simply recording a family tree. He was revealing the grace of God. Every name tells a story, and together they point us to a Saviour who came to redeem broken people.

What makes this genealogy so remarkable is that it includes people whose lives were marked by failure, shame, weakness, and unexpected circumstances. Rahab had a sinful past, yet she believed in the God of Israel and was welcomed into His family. Ruth was a Moabite, an outsider, yet by God's grace she became part of the very lineage that would lead to Christ. Matthew intentionally includes these names to show us that God's plan has never depended upon perfect people.

The same grace that welcomed Rahab and Ruth is the grace that welcomes us today. God does not only use those who appear strong, gifted, or spiritually mature. Time and time again throughout Scripture, He chooses ordinary people and accomplishes extraordinary things through lives that are surrendered to Him.

This should encourage every believer. We often believe that our past has disqualified us or that our weaknesses make us unusable. Yet when we look at the family line of Jesus, we are reminded that God's grace is greater than our failures. He delights in redeeming lives and writing stories that only He could write.

God sees beyond where you have been.

He sees who you can become through Him.

As we walk with Christ, He continues shaping us into the people He has called us to be. His grace does not simply forgive our past; it transforms our future. He takes what was broken and gives it purpose. He takes what seemed ordinary and uses it for His glory.

Never underestimate what God can do with a life that is fully surrendered to Him.

The genealogy of Jesus is not just a list of names.

It is a testimony to the grace of God.

And that same grace is still writing stories today.
