BEFORE YOU MOVE

There are moments when moving quickly feels easier than waiting wisely. Pressure can make us feel as though we must decide immediately, answer immediately, or fix everything immediately. But Scripture gives us a better way. When we need wisdom, we are invited to remember where true wisdom comes from.

God does not rebuke His children for needing direction. He is not impatient with the one who comes honestly and says, "Lord, I do not know what to do." That kind of prayer is not weakness. It is dependence, and dependence is a holy place to begin.

Before you move, ask. Before you answer, ask. Before you step into something simply because it looks right, ask the Lord to search your motives and guide your feet. Jeremiah 10:23 says, "the way of man is not in himself," and "it is not in man who walks to direct his steps." Our own understanding can be limited, hurried, and shaped by fear.

God's wisdom will not always flatter our plans, but it will always lead us toward what is right. He may slow us down, correct us, redirect us, or give peace to take a step of faith. Trust Him enough to ask, and trust Him enough to listen.

Scripture does not only tell us that wisdom is available; it tells us something about the heart of the God who gives it. The Lord gives wisdom from His own mouth. He is not waiting for us to impress Him with perfect understanding before we come near. He invites us to seek Him because He knows how much we need Him.

This also protects us from the danger of making prayer our last resort. Too often we move first and ask God to bless it later. But the wisdom of Scripture calls us to come before Him at the beginning, not simply when our plans have become tangled. Psalm 25:9 says, "He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way." God may not show every mile ahead, but He gives enough grace for the next faithful step.

Sometimes the wisest prayer is not, "Lord, open this door," but, "Lord, make me willing for whatever You know is right." That prayer loosens the grip of pride. It allows God to correct the direction, not merely comfort us while we walk the wrong way.

There is also tenderness in the way God gives wisdom. He is not like people who help and then make us feel small for needing help. He does not shame the sincere heart that comes needing direction. He gives as Father, Shepherd, and Lord.

Wisdom may come through a verse that steadies you, counsel that confirms what Scripture already says, or conviction that stops you from stepping into something harmful. However He leads, His wisdom will agree with His Word and draw your heart nearer to Christ.

The wisest place to stand is not in self-confidence. It is before the Lord, open-handed, saying, "Lead me."
