TODAY MATTERS

Life is not endless here, and that truth is not meant to frighten us into panic. It is meant to wake us into wisdom. Moses prayed, "Teach us to number our days," because a heart that remembers time is a gift begins to live differently.

Today matters. Not because every day must be dramatic, but because every day can be surrendered to God. A small act of obedience matters. A kind word matters. A forgiven offence matters. A prayer whispered in weakness matters.

It is easy to lose days to distraction, resentment, delay, or fear. We can keep waiting for a better season before we obey, love, serve, or make things right. But wisdom asks, "What has God placed before me today?"

Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:34, "do not be anxious about tomorrow," because "sufficient for the day is its own trouble." That does not mean we live carelessly. It means we stop trying to carry what God has not yet given us, and we become faithful with what is in our hands now.

Ask the Lord to teach you to number your days. Let Him reorder your priorities. Let Him make your ordinary moments holy.

Numbering our days is not meant to make us anxious. It is meant to make us awake. When we remember that life is a gift, we become less willing to waste it on bitterness, delay, and things that have no eternal weight.

Haggai 1:5 calls God's people to "consider your ways" before the Lord. That is a daily calling, not only a future dream. It reaches into the way we use our time, the way we respond to people, and the way we choose obedience when no one is watching.

Some of the most meaningful days will not look impressive. They may be filled with ordinary faithfulness: caring for someone, forgiving quickly, praying honestly, doing your work with integrity, or refusing to carry tomorrow before it comes. God sees those days. They are not small when they are surrendered to Him.

Paul told the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 10:31, "whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." That brings purpose into ordinary life. Even simple moments can become places of worship when they are offered back to Him.

Numbering your days also changes how you treat people. If life is short, then love should not always be postponed. Encouragement should not always wait. Repentance should not be delayed until pride feels ready. Today is a gift for obedience.

A numbered life also becomes a grateful life. When we realise today is mercy, entitlement begins to lose its voice. We stop treating breath, time, people, and opportunities as things owed to us, and begin receiving them as gifts to steward before God.

Today is not wasted when it is lived before God.
