LAMPS BURNING

Jesus describes servants who are ready for their lord's return. Their lights are burning. They are not careless, asleep, or distracted from who they are waiting for.

The Christian life is a life of waiting, but waiting in Scripture is not empty idleness. It is active faithfulness. We serve, love, pray, forgive, witness, and obey while looking for our Lord.

Keeping the light burning means tending the inner life. Prayer matters. The Word matters. Repentance matters. Fellowship matters. These are not religious chores; they are ways God keeps the heart awake.

It is possible to become busy for God while no longer burning with love for Him. That is why Jesus' words search us. Are we waiting for Him, or have we become settled as though this world is all there is?

Ask the Lord to rekindle what has grown dim. Let Him clear away distractions that have been stealing your attention and affection.

Keep your light burning. The One you wait for is worthy.
