WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS

Jesus connects treasure and heart. What we value most will shape the direction of our lives. It will influence what we chase, what we fear, what we protect, and what we celebrate.

Earthly treasures are not always sinful, but they are always temporary. Possessions fade. Approval changes. Comfort can disappear. Achievements are soon replaced by new expectations. If the heart is anchored there, peace will always be fragile.

Heavenly treasure is different. What is done for Christ lasts. Secret prayer, costly obedience, generous love, truth spoken humbly, service offered quietly, and faithfulness in suffering are not wasted before God.

This does not mean despising earthly responsibilities. It means keeping them in their proper place. We can receive God's gifts with gratitude without letting them become our god.

Ask the Lord to show you where your treasure has been. What has had your heart? What has ruled your joy? What have you been afraid to surrender?

Jesus does not only warn us about treasure; He invites us into freedom. Earthly treasure demands protection. It makes us anxious because it can be lost, stolen, broken, or outgrown. Heavenly treasure rests safely with God.

Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:17 to command the rich "not to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches," but "on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy." That gives balance. We can receive earthly gifts with gratitude while refusing to build our hope on them.

This passage asks the heart a revealing question: What has been functioning like treasure to you? What do you fear losing most? What disappointment has had the power to steal your peace? Let the Lord gently expose misplaced treasure so He can restore your heart to Himself.

1 John 2:15-17 warns, "Do not love the world or the things in the world," because "the world is passing away along with its desires." That does not mean we cannot enjoy good gifts from God. It means we must not attach our souls to what is already passing.

Heavenly treasure changes generosity. When we know our true riches are secure in Christ, we can hold earthly things with open hands. We can give, serve, and release because our hearts are not being kept alive by possessions.

Jesus is not trying to rob us of joy. He is protecting us from building joy on things too weak to hold it. When treasure is in heaven, the heart is not destroyed every time earth shifts beneath our feet.

Let Christ become your treasure, and your heart will begin to follow Him more freely.
