STAY AWAKE

Paul reminds believers that we are not ignorant of Satan's designs. This is not a call to fear, but to spiritual alertness. We have a real enemy, and carelessness leaves doors open.

The enemy often works subtly. A little compromise. A little bitterness. A little isolation. A little prayerlessness. A little distance from the Word. Drift does not always announce itself loudly.

Staying awake means paying attention to what is shaping your heart. What are you feeding your mind? What have you been excusing? Where have you become spiritually dull? These questions are not meant to condemn you, but to wake you.

Spiritual alertness is part of standing firm in Christ. We do not resist in our own strength. We stand rooted in His Word, covered by His grace, and supported by the people of God.

Do not be casual with what is trying to pull you away from Jesus. Bring hidden things into the light. Pray. Resist. Return.

Sobriety of mind means we do not treat spiritual danger like a game. The enemy is real, temptation is real, and the flesh is not something we can safely entertain. But this is not meant to terrify us; it is meant to wake us into dependence on Christ.

1 John 5:18 says "everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning," and "the evil one does not touch him." Notice the order. Resistance begins with submission. We cannot resist darkness while holding private agreements with it.

Put on the armour of God. Speak truth where lies have been living. Bring hidden things into the light. Stay near to believers who will pray and speak honestly. Above all, stay near to Jesus. The Shepherd is stronger than the wolf, and His grace teaches us to stand.

1 Corinthians 16:13 says, "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith." Watching without praying can become anxiety. Praying without watchfulness can become carelessness. Together, they form a life that is alert, dependent, and guarded by communion with God.

This matters especially in ordinary seasons. We often expect danger only in crisis, but dullness can grow in comfort. Stay awake when life is busy. Stay awake when life is easy. Stay awake when no one is checking on you.

The good news is that vigilance is not the same as self-reliance. We are watchful because we know our weakness, and we are hopeful because we know Christ's strength. The one who keeps us is greater than the one who seeks to devour.

You do not need to be afraid, but you do need to stay awake.
