LED BY THE SPIRIT

The children of God are not left to wander without help.

Romans says those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. The Christian life is not only forgiveness from the past. It is new life under the leadership of the Spirit.

That is a gift, but it also calls for surrender.

Being led by the Spirit will never contradict the Word of God. The Holy Spirit does not lead people into sin, pride, confusion, self-exaltation, bitterness, or disobedience. He leads in truth. He leads in holiness. He leads us to Christ, forms Christlike character in us, and convicts us when we drift.

This matters because not every strong feeling is the Spirit's leading.

Not every open door is God's direction.

Not every inward pull should be obeyed.

Not every desire that feels urgent is holy.

We must test what we sense by Scripture and submit our desires to the Lord. The Spirit of God will not disagree with the Word He inspired.

GALATIANS 5:16 (ESV) says, "Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."

Walking by the Spirit means we are not surrendered to the old patterns as though they still own us. The flesh may pull, but it does not have the right to rule. The Spirit leads us away from what destroys and into the ways of Christ.

This leadership reaches ordinary life.

How you speak.

How you respond when offended.

What you do with temptation.

How you spend time.

What you keep feeding in your mind.

Whether you obey conviction or silence it.

Whether you choose humility when pride rises.

The Spirit's leading is not only for dramatic decisions. It is for daily walking.

JOHN 16:13 (ESV) says, "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth."

The Spirit guides in truth, not confusion. If something is pulling you away from Scripture, away from Christ, away from holiness, away from repentance, or away from love, do not call it the Spirit just because it feels strong.

God's children are not abandoned to their own wisdom.

The Spirit's leading also produces fruit. GALATIANS 5:22-23 (ESV) names love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are not random qualities. They show the character of the Spirit's work in a life. If what we call leading continually produces pride, harshness, disorder, selfishness, or rebellion, we need to stop and test it before the Lord.

ROMANS 8:5 (ESV) says that those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Direction is connected to desire. The Spirit does not only guide decisions; He renews what the mind is set upon. He teaches us to love what God loves and to grieve what grieves Him.

This means being led by the Spirit is not a shortcut around obedience. It is not a spiritual-sounding way to avoid Scripture, accountability, or wisdom. The Spirit leads us deeper into truth, not away from it. He leads us into repentance, not self-protection. He leads us toward Christ, not toward self-exaltation.

So slow down when your feelings are loud. Bring the matter under the Word. Ask whether the fruit looks like the Spirit or the flesh. Listen for conviction without resisting it. The children of God are led, and that leading is holy.

Let Him lead where feeling alone cannot be trusted.

There is peace in being led by Someone wiser than yourself. You do not have to make feeling your final authority. You do not have to obey every impulse. You do not have to be ruled by fear, urgency, offence, or desire. The Spirit of truth is able to guide a submitted heart.

Being led by the Spirit may look like stopping when you wanted to rush. It may look like speaking when fear wanted silence. It may look like repenting quickly, forgiving deeply, resisting temptation, or choosing the narrow way when the flesh argues for comfort.

The leading of the Spirit is a gift to God's children. Follow Him in the ordinary step.

And when you miss His leading, return quickly. Conviction is not the end of sonship. It is one of the mercies of sonship. The Spirit who leads also brings us back when we wander.

That is why dependence must stay daily. We do not outgrow our need for the Spirit's guidance.
