The Lord Leads the Way

God is not limited by what the present moment looks like.

In ISAIAH 42:16 (ESV), the Lord says, "And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know." He speaks as the One who can guide His people where they do not have sight in themselves.

That picture matters because blindness leaves a person dependent. The one being led cannot boast in their own ability to see the road. They must trust the guide. The Lord uses that picture to show His faithful care for people who cannot find the way by themselves.

This does not mean every path we desire is the path God has promised. We must be careful. Scripture is not a blank cheque for our plans. The Lord's leading is holy, wise, and consistent with His character. He does not lead His people into sin and call it guidance. He does not contradict His Word.

But He does work in ways His people could not manufacture.

Sometimes we stare so long at what we cannot see that we begin to believe there is no way forward. The heart can become trained by disappointment. It begins to expect nothing, notice nothing, hope for nothing. But the Lord calls His people to trust Him as guide.

Trust means following.

Not with fantasy. Not with presumption. With faith. Look at the Lord again. Look at His power. Look at His history of deliverance. Look at His faithfulness to His covenant promises.

In the same verse, the Lord says He will turn darkness into light and rough places into level ground. His guidance is not weak. He knows how to lead through confusion, remove what blocks the path, and bring His people forward according to His wisdom.

REVELATION 21:5 (ESV) records the Lord saying, "Behold, I am making all things new." The fullest hope of newness is not merely changed circumstances now, but the final renewal God will bring through Christ. Every present mercy points beyond itself to the day when God will make all things new.

That keeps hope steady. We can ask God to work now without making an idol of our preferred outcome. We can believe He is able without pretending we understand His timing. We can trust that barren places are not beyond His reach.

If you are facing a road you cannot see clearly, do not let your lack of sight become your lord.

The Lord can lead where you cannot see.

He is not trapped by your uncertainty.
