Seek Him While He May Be Found

There is mercy in the call to seek the Lord.

ISAIAH 55:6 (ESV) says, "Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near." This is not a cold command from a distant God. It is an invitation from the Lord who calls sinners to return.

The next verse says the wicked should forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and return to the Lord, that He may have compassion. That matters. Seeking the Lord is not vague spirituality. It includes turning from sin, leaving unrighteous ways, and coming back to God for mercy.

We must not separate seeking from surrender.

Sometimes people want the comfort of God without repentance before God. We want peace, but not change. We want help, but not holiness. We want reassurance, but not the exposure of our ways and thoughts. Yet Isaiah speaks plainly: forsake the way, forsake the thoughts, return to the Lord.

This is grace, not cruelty.

Sin promises freedom while leading into bondage. The Lord calls us away from what destroys. His invitation is not meant to rob us of life, but to bring us back to the only One who gives life.

ISAIAH 55:7 (ESV) says the Lord "will have compassion" and "will abundantly pardon." That is astonishing. The call to repent is joined to the promise of mercy. God does not say, "Return so I can shame you." He says there is compassion and abundant pardon with Him.

This points us to Christ. The forgiveness sinners need is not earned by the strength of their returning. It is found in the mercy of God, secured through the saving work of Jesus. Repentance does not purchase grace. It turns from sin toward the God who gives grace.

ACTS 3:19 (ESV) says, "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out." That is not small mercy. Sins blotted out. Guilt not managed, but forgiven through Christ.

Do not delay obedience because you assume there will always be another convenient moment. Scripture says to seek Him while He may be found. That gives the invitation weight. Today matters. The Lord's mercy should not be treated casually.

If there is a way you need to forsake, forsake it.

If there is a thought pattern that has become unrighteous, bring it under the Word.

If you have wandered, return.

The Lord is not poor in mercy.

He abundantly pardons.
