Born in Humility

The Son of God came low. Luke tells the birth of Jesus with striking simplicity. In LUKE 2:7 (ESV), Mary gives birth, wraps Him in swaddling cloths, and lays Him in a manger. No palace is described. No earthly display of power surrounds the scene. The eternal Son enters the world in humility. That should make us pause. The world often measures importance by visibility, comfort, status, and control. But Christ did not come wrapped in the kind of glory the flesh naturally understands. He came in lowliness. This does not mean He lacked glory. It means His glory was not dependent on human recognition. The baby in the manger was not less than Lord because the room was ordinary. Heaven knew what earth barely perceived.

Humility is woven into the coming of Christ. He did not grasp at privilege as man would. He came as servant. He entered poverty, weakness, vulnerability, and ordinary human life. He was truly born, truly carried, truly dependent in His humanity. That matters because God is not embarrassed by low places. We often are. We want impressive settings, clear recognition, and visible proof that something matters. But the Lord can place holy purpose in humble surroundings. He can work where the world would not look twice.

2 CORINTHIANS 8:9 (ESV) says that though Christ was rich, yet for our sake He became poor, so that by His poverty we might become rich. That is not a promise of worldly luxury. It is the wonder of redeeming grace. Christ humbled Himself for the salvation of His people. If your life feels hidden, ordinary, or unimpressive, do not assume God is absent. The manger teaches us not to despise the lowly place when God is present there. Christ came low. And His humility is not weakness. It is mercy.
