Treasuring What God Has Done

Not every holy moment should be rushed past. In LUKE 2:19 (ESV), Mary treasures and ponders what has happened. Shepherds have come with the angelic announcement. The child has been born. Wonder surrounds the moment. Yet Mary does not treat it all as noise. She keeps these things and reflects on them deeply. There is wisdom here for distracted hearts. We live in a world that teaches us to move quickly from one thing to the next. Hear something, post something, react, scroll, hurry, plan, consume, move on. Even spiritual things can become part of the rush. We can hear Scripture and barely let it touch us. We can sing truth and immediately forget it. We can experience mercy and move quickly into the next worry. Mary treasured.

To treasure is to keep something as weighty. To ponder is to turn it over, not in anxious overthinking, but in reverent attention. She did not understand everything yet, but she did not discard what God had done. This is different from nostalgia. Mary was not trying to preserve a feeling. She was receiving the work of God with seriousness. PSALM 77:11 (ESV) says, "I will remember the deeds of the LORD." Remembering is part of worship. The heart needs to recall what God has spoken, what He has done, and how He has shown mercy. What has the Lord done that you have rushed past? What truth has He spoken in His Word that needs to be pondered, not merely noticed? What mercy have you treated as ordinary? Treasuring does not mean you understand everything. Mary would still face confusion, sorrow, and a sword piercing her own soul. But she held God's works with reverence. Let December slow you enough to treasure Christ. Not just the activity around Him. Him. There is a kind of spiritual shallowness that comes from always moving on too quickly. The soul needs time with truth. It needs Scripture to settle, worship to become more than sound, and mercy to be remembered with weight. PSALM 111:2 (ESV) says, "Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them." The works of God deserve more than a glance. They deserve holy attention. Mary treasured and pondered, and there is wisdom in learning to do the same before the Lord.
