After the Wonder

The day after celebration can reveal what the heart is really seeking. Christmas Day passes. The house may be quieter. People may be tired. Routines begin to return. The emotional warmth may settle. But Christ has not changed. COLOSSIANS 3:1 (ESV) says, "seek the things that are above, where Christ is." This is a needed word after holy reminders. We are not meant to admire Christ for a day and then return to earthbound living as though nothing has changed. Paul grounds the command in union with Christ. Believers have been raised with Christ. Their life is hidden with Christ in God. That means the Christian life is not seasonal enthusiasm. It is a new life with a new direction. To seek the things above does not mean neglecting earthly responsibilities. It means those responsibilities are governed by Christ. Work, family, rest, money, speech, plans, and habits are brought under His lordship. This matters because spiritual drift can happen quickly after moments of wonder. We hear truth, feel stirred, and then the old patterns return. Distraction takes over. Irritation rises. Prayer thins. The Word is pushed aside. But Christ is still above.

MATTHEW 6:21 (ESV) says, "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." The heart follows what it treasures. If Christ is treated as occasional, the life will drift. If Christ is treasure, the life begins to seek Him. After the wonder, seek Him. After the songs, obey Him. After the gathering, walk with Him. Christ is not only worthy on Christmas Day. He is your life. That means the days after Christmas matter too. Faithfulness is often proved after the special moment passes, when the heart returns to ordinary obedience. Will Christ still shape your words when you are tired? Will He still govern your desires when the atmosphere changes? Will His Word still have authority when the calendar moves on? ROMANS 14:8 (ESV) says, "whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's." Belonging to Christ reaches every day, not only the holy days we mark with celebration.
