Carried Forward

There is comfort in knowing the Lord does not stop carrying His people at the edge of a calendar. As one year nears its end and another comes close, many hearts begin to measure themselves. What was done. What was not done. What changed. What stayed the same. What hurt. What healed. What still feels unfinished. In ISAIAH 46:3-4 (ESV), the Lord speaks these words to the house of Jacob, revealing His covenant faithfulness to Israel: "I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save." The immediate setting contrasts the living God with powerless idols. Idols must be carried by the people who made them. They become burdens. They cannot save. But God declares that He carries the people He has made. This reveals His faithful character and gives His people solid ground for trust. That difference matters deeply.

False gods always become burdens. The idol of control becomes exhausting. The idol of approval becomes unstable. The idol of comfort becomes demanding. The idol of success never lets the heart rest. What we trust apart from God eventually has to be carried by us. But the Lord carries His people. This does not mean life never feels heavy. Scripture is honest about sorrow, weakness, enemies, discipline, and waiting. But the believer's hope is not that life will never have weight. The hope is that God is faithful under, over, and beyond the weight.

DEUTERONOMY 33:27 (ESV) says, "The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms." That is not fragile help. Everlasting arms do not weaken at the end of December. They do not expire when the year changes. So bring the year honestly before Him. Bring the gratitude and the grief. Bring what matured and what still needs surrender. Bring the parts you understand and the parts you still cannot explain. The Lord is not asking you to carry yourself into the next season as though His mercy has run out. He made. He bears. He carries. He saves.
