Bought With a Price

The body matters to God. In 1 CORINTHIANS 6:19-20 (ESV), Paul says, "You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." This is deeply countercultural because the world often says the body belongs to self-rule.

Scripture says otherwise. The believer belongs to Christ. That truth is not meant to crush joy; it is meant to restore worship. If I am not my own, then my body is not a tool for sin, image, pride, lust, laziness, or self-worship. It belongs to the Lord who purchased me.

Paul is addressing sexual immorality in the context of the passage, but the principle reaches wider. What we do with the body matters: what we pursue, consume, practice, indulge, neglect, and offer. Christianity is not merely inward feeling. The body is included in discipleship.

1 CORINTHIANS 6:15 (ESV) says our bodies are members of Christ. That makes compromise serious. We cannot separate bodily choices from spiritual reality as though one has nothing to do with the other.

You were bought with a price. The price was not silver or gold, but the precious blood of Christ. Let that truth call you away from self-ownership and into worship. Glorify God in your body, because you belong to Him.

This is a needed word in a culture that treats desire as authority. Scripture does not deny that desires can feel powerful, but it does deny that they have the right to rule. The body belongs to the Lord. That means purity is not merely about avoiding consequences; it is about worship. What we do with the body should agree with the price paid for us. Christ's ownership is not oppression. It is rescue from the tyranny of self-rule.
