Strengthen One Another Today

Encouragement is not optional decoration in the Christian life. HEBREWS 3:13 (ESV) says to exhort one another every day, as long as it is called today, so that none may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

That is a serious reason for encouragement. Sin deceives. It tells people they are fine when they are drifting. It tells them compromise is harmless, repentance can wait, bitterness is justified, and isolation is safer. A hard heart often forms gradually under the lies sin keeps whispering.

God uses His people to help one another stay awake. Exhortation may include encouragement, warning, reminder, correction, Scripture, prayer, and steady presence. It is not nagging. It is love that cares enough to speak while it is still called today.

1 THESSALONIANS 5:11 (ESV) says, "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up." Building up is active. It requires attention. Someone near you may need a word that strengthens faith before their heart grows harder.

Do not assume encouragement must be dramatic. A message, a verse, a truthful conversation, a reminder to keep going, or a gentle warning can become mercy in God's hands. Today matters. Strengthen one another while it is called today.

There is urgency in the word today. Encouragement delayed may become encouragement missed. A warning delayed may allow sin to harden further. A word of Scripture delayed may leave someone alone under a lie they were struggling to resist. We cannot carry everyone, and we are not the Holy Spirit, but we can be faithful with the people God places near us. Today, someone may need strengthening more than you realise.

This also means we must be humble enough to receive exhortation ourselves. The command is one another, not everyone else. Sometimes God's mercy comes through a brother or sister who loves us enough to speak before drift becomes distance.
