Two Are Better Than One

God did not design people to carry every burden alone. ECCLESIASTES 4:9-10 (ESV) says, "Two are better than one," and then gives the simple reason: if one falls, the other can lift him up.

Pride often resists this. We do not want to need help. We do not want anyone to see weakness, confusion, grief, temptation, or weariness. But isolation is not strength. Sometimes it is fear dressed as independence.

There is humility in receiving help and humility in giving it rightly. Helping someone up does not mean becoming their saviour. Christ alone is Savior. But it does mean love refuses to watch someone fall and remain untouched.

PROVERBS 17:17 (ESV) says, "A friend loves at all times." Faithful friendship is not only present when everything is easy. It stays near enough to lift, encourage, correct, and carry practical love when needed.

Ask two questions. Who has God placed near you that may need lifting? And where have you refused help because pride wanted to appear stronger than you are? Two are better than one, not because people replace God, but because God often shows care through His people.

This kind of help requires both availability and honesty. It is hard to lift someone if we keep every relationship shallow. It is hard to be lifted if we never admit when we have fallen. Godly community is not built on image; it is built on humility, truth, patience, and love. The Lord often uses another believer's steady presence to remind us that falling is not the end when grace teaches us to rise again.

Do not despise the ordinary ways God provides help. A faithful conversation, a timely check-in, a shared burden, or a gentle correction may be one of the means He uses to keep you steady. We need Christ, and Christ often cares for His people through His people.
