A Way of Escape

Temptation often tries to make sin feel inevitable. It whispers, "You cannot resist this. You have already gone too far. This is just who you are." But 1 CORINTHIANS 10:13 (ESV) says God is faithful, and "he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

This verse does not tell us we are strong enough in ourselves. It tells us God is faithful. That is the foundation. Temptation is real, and Scripture never treats it like a game. But the believer is not abandoned to face it without help.

The way of escape may not always feel dramatic. It may be confession, leaving the room, closing the screen, calling someone, refusing a conversation, opening Scripture, praying honestly, or choosing obedience before emotion catches up. Sometimes the escape is simple, but pride makes us stand too close to the fire.

Grace does not only forgive after failure; grace trains us to flee before failure. PROVERBS 4:14-15 (ESV) says, "Do not enter the path of the wicked... Avoid it; do not go on it." That is wisdom, not fear.

Do not argue with temptation as if you are stronger than it. Look for the escape God provides and take it. His faithfulness is not an excuse to stay near sin; it is the reason you can walk away.

There is a moment in temptation where obedience is still simple, even if it is costly. If we keep delaying, we make the battle harder and then call it impossible. Grace teaches us to move when God shows the door. Take the escape before desire starts preaching. The Lord is faithful, but we must not test that faithfulness by lingering where wisdom has already told us to leave. Sometimes victory begins with a very ordinary step away.
