Though Your Sins Are Scarlet

God does not need to pretend sin is clean in order to forgive. In ISAIAH 1:18 (ESV), He says, "though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow." The promise begins by naming the stain honestly.

That is important. Grace does not work by denial. It does not say sin was not sin, rebellion was not rebellion, impurity was not impurity, pride was not pride. God tells the truth. Scarlet is scarlet. But He also speaks a mercy greater than the stain.

Some people try to make themselves clean before coming to God. Others sink into despair because they know they cannot. Scripture calls us away from both. In its context, Isaiah's promise is joined to God's call for rebellious Judah to turn from evil, learn to do good, and become willing and obedient. This is not permission to continue in rebellion while claiming cleansing. We come to the Lord in repentance, trusting Him to make scarlet white as snow.

ZECHARIAH 13:1 (ESV) speaks of "a fountain opened... to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness." The Bible's answer to defilement is not self-rescue; it is God's cleansing mercy.

Do not minimize sin. Bring it into the light. But do not magnify sin above the cleansing power of God. The Lord who exposes the stain is the Lord who promises cleansing. Scarlet does not have the final word when God speaks mercy.

That promise should create a clean courage in us. We do not need to keep defending what God is ready to wash. We do not need to hide behind religious language while the stain remains untouched. Let the Lord reason with you through His Word. Agree with His verdict about sin, and then believe His promise about cleansing. Grace is not offended by honesty. It begins its deepest work where the truth is finally told.

The enemy wants confession to feel like the end of hope. In Scripture, confession is often where mercy begins to be tasted. Bring the scarlet thing to God. He is able to make clean what you cannot cleanse.
