Redemption Through His Blood

Forgiveness was not cheap. EPHESIANS 1:7 (ESV) says, "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace."

Those words hold together what we must never separate. Forgiveness is according to the riches of grace, but it comes through the blood of Christ. God does not forgive by pretending justice does not matter. He forgives through the sacrifice of His Son.

That makes grace both tender and weighty. It is tender because the believer truly has forgiveness in Christ. It is weighty because our forgiveness was purchased at infinite cost. The cross shows the seriousness of sin and the depth of God's love at the same time.

LEVITICUS 17:11 (ESV) says, "it is the blood that makes atonement." The Old Testament sacrificial system pointed forward to the need for atonement, and Christ fulfilled what those sacrifices could only foreshadow.

Do not treat forgiveness as a small religious word. Redemption means we have been bought out of bondage. Trespasses are forgiven. Grace is rich. The blood of Christ is precious. Live as someone redeemed, not as someone still owned by what Jesus died to free you from.

This should make sin feel less like a private habit and more like a former master trying to reclaim what no longer belongs to it. Redemption means ownership has changed. You are not your shame's property, your past's property, or your temptation's property. Christ has paid with His blood. Grace is not cheap comfort; it is costly rescue. Honour the Redeemer by walking away from the chains He broke.

The riches of grace are meant to create reverence. If Christ shed His blood to redeem us, then no sin is worth returning to as though it were a friend. The forgiven life should become a grateful life.
