Let the Thirsty Come

The Bible ends with invitation. REVELATION 22:17 (ESV) says, "Let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price."

That is grace. The water of life is not sold to the spiritually impressive. It is given without price to the thirsty who come. The gospel does not flatter human pride, but it does open the door of mercy wide through Christ.

Thirst is honest need. It does not come pretending to be full. It does not bargain as if it can pay. It comes because nothing else can satisfy. Many people keep drinking from sin, approval, distraction, success, control, or comfort, and still remain thirsty. Christ alone gives life.

This invitation also carries urgency. Revelation is not soft about judgement, holiness, or the return of Christ. But right there, in the final chapter, the invitation remains: come. Grace does not erase truth. Grace calls thirsty people to life before it is too late.

ISAIAH 55:1 (ESV) says, "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters." The invitation has always revealed the generous heart of God.

Come thirsty. Come needy. Come without payment. Come to Christ. The water of life is not earned, and it is not found anywhere else.

This is a fitting place to end a month of grace. The call of God is not to the satisfied who think they have no need, but to the thirsty who know they cannot give themselves life. The invitation is free because Christ has paid what we could not pay. Do not keep drinking from empty wells. Come to the water of life. The final invitation of Scripture is still full of mercy: come.
