A Spring Within

Jesus met a thirsty woman beside a well and spoke of a deeper thirst. In JOHN 4:14 (ESV), He says, "the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The woman came for ordinary water, but Christ exposed the deeper longing beneath her life. Her story was marked by brokenness, shame, and searching. Jesus did not flatter her sin, but He also did not turn away from her. He offered living water.

This is grace with truth in it. The Lord knows the places where we have tried to satisfy thirst wrongly. He knows the wells we return to even though they cannot give life. Approval, relationships, pleasure, control, achievement, and distraction may promise relief, but they cannot become a spring within.

REVELATION 21:6 (ESV) says, "To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment." The gift of God is not earned by those who have managed life well. It is given by grace to the thirsty who come.

Do not keep asking empty wells to do what only Christ can do. He does not merely hand out temporary relief. He gives life within. Come honestly. Let Him name the thirst, forgive the sin, and satisfy the soul with Himself.

The mercy of Jesus in this passage is deeply personal. He does not avoid the woman's story, yet He does not reduce her to it. That is grace. Christ can tell the truth about our broken searching and still offer living water. Do not fear the One who knows you completely. The water He gives is greater than the thirst sin tried to answer.
