Fullness of Joy

Joy is not found by moving further from God. PSALM 16:11 (ESV) says, "In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

Sin lies about joy. It suggests God is holding life back and that fullness must be found elsewhere. But Scripture tells the truth: fullness of joy is in God's presence. Every false pleasure is temporary, smaller, and costly in ways it tries to hide.

David's confidence is personal. He is not only speaking about religious duty. He knows the Lord as refuge, portion, counsellor, and joy. The presence of God is not a small add-on to life. It is the place where the soul finds what it was made for.

PSALM 36:8 (ESV) says, "They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights." God is not against joy. He is against the counterfeit joys that destroy us.

Let this correct the suspicion that holiness means misery. The path of life is with God. The pleasures that last are at His right hand. Do not trade fullness for a moment. Come back to the presence where true joy lives.

This is a strong answer to temptation. Sin rarely presents itself as destruction; it presents itself as pleasure. But God is not asking us to abandon joy. He is calling us away from joy's counterfeit and into joy's fullness. The happiest soul is not the one with no boundaries. It is the one living near the God whose presence is life.

So bring your idea of joy under Scripture. Ask whether what you are chasing leads you nearer to God or away from Him. Fullness is not found in distance from the Lord, but in His presence.
