Stir One Another Up

Following Christ was never meant to be lived in proud isolation. HEBREWS 10:24-25 (ESV) says, "let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works."

The word consider matters. Encouraging others takes thought. It is not only reacting when someone is visibly falling apart. It means paying attention, praying, speaking truth, showing up, and helping others keep moving toward love and obedience.

The passage also warns against neglecting to meet together. Isolation can feel easier, especially when life is busy, shame is loud, or disappointment has made the heart guarded. But God often strengthens His people through His people. We need the gathered church, truthful relationships, and shared endurance.

ROMANS 1:12 (ESV) speaks of being "mutually encouraged by each other's faith." Encouragement is not one-directional. The body of Christ is meant to build itself up in love.

Ask who you are helping toward love and good works. Also ask who you have allowed to speak into your own life. Grace makes us humble enough to need one another. Stir someone up today, not toward busyness, but toward faithful love and obedience.

This will not happen by accident. The passage says to consider how. Think about the people God has placed near you. What would actually strengthen them? What word, presence, Scripture, encouragement, or challenge might help them keep going? Love pays attention. And when someone tries to stir you up toward Christ, receive it with humility.

The church is weakened when everyone waits to be noticed but no one considers others. Grace turns our eyes outward. Stirring one another up is one way love refuses spiritual sleep.

Be awake for someone else today.

That small faithfulness may strengthen more than you know.
