He Put a New Song in My Mouth

David knew what it was to wait from a low place. PSALM 40:1-3 (ESV) says the Lord heard his cry, drew him up from the pit, set his feet upon a rock, and "put a new song" in his mouth.

This is not shallow cheerfulness. The psalm begins with waiting and crying. God is not offended by honest distress. But David's testimony is that the Lord heard, rescued, steadied, and gave worship where despair had been.

Sometimes the pit makes it hard to imagine a new song. Pain can narrow vision until the future feels like more of the same. But the Lord is able to lift His people from places they could not climb out of by themselves.

EXODUS 15:2 (ESV) says, "The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation." When God saves, He gives His people reason to sing again.

If you are waiting, keep crying to the Lord. If He has lifted you, do not forget to praise Him. The new song is not about pretending the pit was easy. It is about testifying that God was merciful, strong, and faithful enough to bring you out.

Waiting can feel like nothing is happening, but David says he waited patiently and the Lord inclined to him. God hears cries from low places. He can set feet on rock again, not merely change feelings for a moment. The new song becomes a witness: many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

Your deliverance is never only about you. When God lifts and steadies His people, others can see His mercy. The new song becomes testimony, and testimony becomes an invitation to trust Him.
