A NEW WAY

There comes a point in every believer's life where following Jesus becomes more than simply believing the right things. It becomes a decision about how you are going to live.

Peter writes to Christians who were facing pressure, hardship, and opposition. Instead of telling them to protect themselves or find the easiest path, he tells them to arm themselves with the mindset of Christ. In other words, prepare your mind for a different way of living.

That challenge is just as relevant today.

The world teaches us to follow our feelings, pursue our desires, and build life around ourselves. Scripture points us in a different direction. It calls us to live for the will of God rather than for whatever seems right in the moment.

This is where many people struggle. We often want God to change our circumstances while holding onto the same mindset that keeps us stuck. Yet real transformation begins when God starts changing how we think. A different life requires a different way of seeing.

The truth is that growth rarely happens inside comfort. It happens when God begins challenging old patterns, old reactions, and old ways of viewing ourselves. What once felt normal begins to lose its grip as the Holy Spirit reshapes our thinking.

Peter then moves from mindset to relationships.

1 PETER 4:8 (ESV)

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”

A new way of living will always be visible in how we treat people.

It is easy to love people when they agree with us, appreciate us, or make life easier. Genuine Christian love goes much deeper. It chooses patience when frustration would be easier. It chooses forgiveness when resentment feels justified. It chooses grace when criticism feels deserved.

This kind of love is not natural. It is produced as Christ continues His work within us.

Peter finishes by reminding believers that God has given every one of them something to steward.

1 PETER 4:10–11 (ESV)

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

The Christian life was never meant to be passive. God has given each believer gifts, opportunities, experiences, and abilities that can be used for His glory and for the good of others.

What matters is recognising where the strength comes from.

Peter does not say to serve through your own ability. He says to serve through the strength that God supplies. That changes everything. We are not called to manufacture what we need. We are called to depend on the One who provides it.

A new way of living is not about becoming a better version of the old you. It is about allowing Christ to shape your thinking, direct your desires, deepen your love, and use your life for His purposes.

The old way asks, "What do I want?"

The new way asks, "Lord, what do You want?"

And it is often in that simple shift that God begins doing some of His deepest work within us.
