BETTER TO GIVE — PART 3 — WHAT CAN I GIVE?

In the previous devotion, we looked at the boy who gave his five loaves and two fish to Jesus. What seemed small became part of a miracle because it was surrendered into the hands of Christ. That account challenges us to give what we have rather than focusing on what we lack.

Yet many people still ask the question, "What can I give?"

For some, the word giving immediately brings thoughts of money. While financial generosity is certainly part of the Christian life, the Bible presents a much bigger picture. God has entrusted every believer with something that can be used for His glory and the good of others.

Peter writes, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another.” Notice that he does not say some believers have received a gift. He says “each” has received one. Every follower of Christ has been entrusted with abilities, experiences, opportunities, resources, and gifts that can be used in service to others.

Some people have the gift of encouragement. They have a way of speaking hope into difficult situations. Others have the ability to listen, serve quietly, teach, lead, show hospitality, or come alongside people who are struggling. Some have resources they can share, while others have time they can invest. The gifts may look different, but they all have value in the kingdom of God.

One of the enemy's strategies is to convince believers that what they have to offer is insignificant. We compare ourselves to others and begin focusing on what we cannot do rather than what God has already placed in our hands. Yet Peter reminds us that we are “stewards of God's varied grace.” The gifts we have received were never meant to be hidden, ignored, or dismissed. They were given to be used.

This truth is seen throughout Scripture. Dorcas used her skills to make clothing for those in need. Barnabas used his gift of encouragement to strengthen other believers. The Good Samaritan used his time, resources, and compassion to help a wounded stranger. None of them had the same gift, but all of them used what God had entrusted to them.

This is why GALATIANS 6:10 (ESV) says, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” God often works through ordinary opportunities that are right in front of us. A phone call. A prayer. A conversation. A meal. A kind word. A practical act of service. What seems small to us can have a lasting impact in the life of someone else.

The question is not whether you have something to give.

The question is whether you are willing to use what God has already given you.

Every gift, every opportunity, and every resource ultimately comes from God. He has entrusted them to us for a purpose. When we use them to serve others, encourage others, and bring glory to Him, we become faithful stewards of His grace.

You may not be able to do everything.

But you can do something.

And God often uses that something to make a difference far greater than we ever realise.
