BETTER TO GIVE — PART 4 — GOD CAN USE WHAT YOU GIVE

Throughout this series, we have looked at what it means to live with a heart of generosity. We began by seeing that Jesus taught it is more blessed to give than to receive. We then looked at the boy who gave his five loaves and two fish and discovered that God asks us to give what we have rather than focusing on what we lack. Most recently, we were reminded that every believer has been entrusted with gifts, opportunities, abilities, and resources that can be used to serve others and bring glory to God.

This final devotion brings all of those truths together.

The reality is that many people never question whether giving is good. The real question is whether what they have to offer can truly make a difference. We can easily look at our gifts, our resources, our experience, or our opportunities and conclude that they are too small to have any meaningful impact.

Yet Scripture repeatedly tells a different story.

The boy's lunch seemed insignificant until it was placed in the hands of Jesus. Five loaves and two fish were not enough to feed thousands, but they became more than enough when surrendered to Christ. The miracle was never about the size of the gift. It was about the power of the One receiving it.

The same principle appears throughout the Bible. Moses doubted that God could use him because of his weaknesses. Gideon believed he was the least qualified person for the task before him. The disciples were ordinary men with no special status or influence. Yet God used each of them in remarkable ways because they were willing to place themselves in His hands.

This is why Paul reminds believers that “God is able.” The focus is not on our ability but on His. Too often we become preoccupied with what we cannot do, while God is calling us to be faithful with what He has already entrusted to us. We look at our limitations. God looks at our availability.

One of the great lessons of this series is that generosity is not measured by size. It is measured by faithfulness. God is not asking every believer to do the same thing. He is asking each believer to faithfully use what He has placed in their hands.

For some people that may be resources.

For others it may be time.

For others it may be encouragement, hospitality, prayer, wisdom, service, or simply being available when someone is in need.

When those things are surrendered to God, He is able to use them in ways we may never fully understand this side of eternity.

This is why EPHESIANS 3:20 (ESV) says, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” God's ability has always been greater than our limitations.

As this series comes to a close, remember what we have learned. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Give what you have. Recognise what God has already placed in your hands. Then trust Him with the outcome.

The boy gave a lunch.

Others gave their gifts.

Others gave their time.

Others gave their lives in service to God.

None of them knew everything God would do through their obedience.

They simply offered what they had.

The same invitation stands before every believer today.

Give what God has entrusted to you.

Leave the results with Him.

And trust that the God who multiplies, provides, and works through ordinary people is still at work today.
