Blessed Are: The Meek - Part 3

Meekness is one of the most misunderstood Christian virtues. The world often connects meekness with weakness, timidity, or being easily controlled. But biblical meekness is not weakness. It is strength surrendered to God.

A meek person is someone who no longer needs to use power to exalt themselves, control others, defend pride, or manage every outcome. Meekness is the posture of a heart that trusts God enough to remain humble even when it has the ability to respond differently.

Numbers 12:3 (ESV) says, “Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.” Moses was not weak. He stood before Pharaoh, led a nation, interceded for the people, and carried great responsibility. Yet he learned to depend on God rather than himself.

Jesus is the perfect example of meekness. Matthew 11:29 (ESV) says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.” Jesus had all authority, power, and glory, yet He humbled Himself completely.

Meekness frees a person from the exhausting burden of constantly defending themselves. A meek person does not need to fight for status because their identity is secure in God. They do not need to control every outcome because they trust the Father's sovereignty.

True strength is not found in dominating others. True strength is found in remaining obedient to God when pride demands its own way.
