Blessed Are: Those Who Hunger And Thirst For Righteousness - Part 4

Hunger and thirst are strong desires. Jesus uses this language on purpose because righteousness is not meant to be something we pursue casually or only when it is convenient. It is meant to become the deep longing of a heart being changed by God.

The world teaches people to hunger for achievement, recognition, pleasure, money, status, comfort, attention, and approval. But the human heart was never created to be satisfied by earthly things alone. Success, entertainment, achievement, and distraction cannot replace what only God can give.

Righteousness is more than religious behaviour. It is the desire to walk rightly before God, know Him more deeply, hate sin rather than excuse it, and be shaped more fully into His will and character.

Daniel lived in a culture opposed to God, yet remained faithful. Daniel 6:10 (ESV) says, “He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.”

Paul also shows this hunger. Philippians 3:8 (ESV) says, “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Paul saw that knowing Christ was worth more than reputation, achievement, or earthly gain.

The promise of this Beatitude is beautiful: those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be satisfied. Jesus does not ignore sincere spiritual desire. When a heart truly seeks God, He responds.
