STAY CONNECTED TO THE VINE

JOHN 15:4–5 (ESV)

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

There is a difference between trying to live well and being connected to the source that actually produces life. It is possible to put in effort, to try and stay consistent, and to want to move in the right direction, but still feel like something is missing underneath it all.

JOHN 15:4–5 (ESV) makes it clear that growth does not come from effort alone. A branch does not produce fruit by trying harder. It produces fruit by staying connected to the vine. In the same way, real growth in life is not sustained by striving, but by staying connected to Jesus.

That connection can be easy to overlook. Life becomes busy, responsibilities increase, and attention gets pulled in different directions. It is not always a clear decision to disconnect, but over time the connection can weaken simply through neglect.

When that happens, things can begin to feel dry, forced, or inconsistent. Not because something is wrong on the outside, but because the source of strength is no longer being drawn from in the same way.

Jesus does not describe connection as something occasional. He uses the word “abide,” which means to remain, to stay, and to continue. That speaks of something ongoing, not something that happens once and is left behind.

COLOSSIANS 2:6–7 (ESV) says, “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith…”

That shows that the same way you began is the same way you continue. Not by moving away from Him, but by staying rooted in Him. That is where strength comes from, that is where stability is formed, and that is where growth becomes consistent.

Connection is not about perfection.

It is about remaining.

And when you remain in Him, what is produced in your life begins to reflect the source you are connected to, not the pressure around you.
