STAY FOLLOWING

JOHN 10:27 (ESV)

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

Following Jesus is often understood at the start, but it becomes more real as life continues. It is one thing to begin, but it is another thing to keep going, especially when things are not as clear or as steady as they once felt.

There are seasons where following feels natural, where direction seems obvious and the next step feels clear. But there are also seasons where it feels quieter, where things are not as certain, and where the path does not feel as defined. That is where following becomes intentional.

JOHN 10:27 (ESV) makes it clear that following is not built on guessing, but on relationship. Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice… and they follow me.” That means the direction does not come from trying to figure everything out alone, but from staying close enough to recognise His voice.

Distraction is one of the biggest challenges in this. There are many voices, many options, and many directions that can pull attention away. It does not always feel like a clear step away, it can simply be a slow shift in focus. Over time, that shift can affect how decisions are made and what is being followed.

But following Jesus is not about moving perfectly, it is about staying connected. It is about continuing to listen, even when things are not loud or obvious, and continuing to respond, even when the steps feel small.

HEBREWS 12:2 (ESV) says, “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…”

That brings the focus back to where it belongs. Following is not sustained by effort alone, it is sustained by where attention is placed. When focus returns to Jesus, clarity begins to return with it.

There will be moments where it feels like progress is slow, or where things are not as clear as they once were, but that does not mean direction has been lost. Staying in that place of listening and responding keeps you moving forward, even if it feels steady rather than fast.

Following Jesus is not about speed.

It is about direction.

And staying with Him keeps that direction steady, even through seasons where things feel less certain.
