HE KNOWS MY NAME

ISAIAH 43:1 (ESV)

“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’”

JOHN 3:16 (ESV)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

There is something powerful in being known, not just seen, not just noticed, but known. Many people live their lives shaped by what others have called them, labels from the past, mistakes, failure, addiction, opinions, and words that have stuck over time. Those labels begin to form identity, and over time a person can start to believe that is who they are.

But ISAIAH 43:1 (ESV) makes something clear, “I have called you by name, you are mine.” That means identity does not come from people, it comes from God. He is not looking at a person through their past, their struggles, or their failures. He is the one who created, formed, redeemed, and called. That changes everything.

It does not matter what people have said. It does not matter what labels have been placed on a life. What matters is what God is saying. His voice carries truth, and His truth carries identity. When He calls a name, He is not calling someone based on where they have been, but on what He has done and what He is bringing them into.

There is a tendency to look back, to define life by what has happened, by years lost, by mistakes made, and by things that cannot be changed. But God does not work backwards like that. He is not limited to history. He sees fully, and He redeems completely. Being redeemed means being bought back, restored, and brought into something new.

There is also a reality that life can become difficult, and in those moments it can feel like God is distant. But the truth is, He does not promise that life will be easy, He promises that He will be present. Even in the hardest moments, He remains. When things feel uncertain, when pressure builds, when situations become overwhelming, the anchor is not in circumstances, but in who walks through them with you.

JOHN 3:16 (ESV) shows the depth of that truth, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son…” That is not general, that is personal. That love is not distant, it is demonstrated. Jesus gave His life so that redemption could take place. That means identity is not earned, it is received.

There is no need to live under old names when God has already spoken a new one. There is no need to carry what has already been paid for. The truth is simple but powerful, He knows your name, He has redeemed you, and He is not finished.
