WHAT YOU FOCUS ON GROWS
COLOSSIANS 3:2 (ESV)
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
What you focus on has a way of shaping more than just your thoughts. It begins to influence how you feel, how you respond, and how you move through situations. Over time, what holds your attention starts to take up more space, and what takes up more space begins to affect your direction.
COLOSSIANS 3:2 (ESV) is not just a suggestion, it is a deliberate instruction. Setting your mind is an active choice. It means recognising that not everything deserves equal attention, and not every thought should be given room to grow.
It is easy to become consumed by what is happening around you. Pressure, uncertainty, and even comparison can begin to take hold if they are constantly in focus. The more attention they are given, the more they begin to shape how everything else is seen.
But Jesus consistently redirected focus, not by ignoring reality, but by placing it in the right context.
MATTHEW 6:33 (ESV) says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
That shifts the starting point. Instead of reacting to everything that demands attention, focus is placed on what actually leads and sustains. When that happens, perspective begins to change, and things that once felt overwhelming no longer carry the same weight.
This does not mean that challenges disappear or that everything becomes easy. It means that what you are anchored to becomes stronger than what is around you. Over time, that changes how you think, how you respond, and how you move forward.
Focus is not something that happens by default.
It is something that is chosen.
And when that choice is aligned with truth, it begins to shape your life in a way that reflects what you are actually fixed on.
