WHAT DOOR ARE YOU KNOCKING ON

MATTHEW 7:7–8 (ESV)

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Everyone is knocking on something. The question is not whether you are seeking, it is what you are seeking and where you are going to find it.

You can spend your life knocking on doors that were never meant to open. Doors of pride, where everything has to be on your terms. Doors of fear, where you hesitate and hold back because you do not trust what is on the other side. Doors shaped by the world, where what looks right pulls you further away from what is true.

And over time, you can be constantly knocking, constantly searching, but never actually finding what you need.

This is why MATTHEW 7:7 (ESV) — “Ask… seek… knock… and it will be opened to you” is not just about action, it is about direction. It matters where you are knocking.

Because there is a difference between knocking on the door of the world and knocking on the door of salvation.

You can knock on the wrong doors long enough that they begin to shape your expectations. You begin to think that nothing will open, nothing will change, and nothing will come through. But the issue is not that there is no answer, it is that you have been knocking in the wrong place.

And even when you come to the right door, pride and fear can still get in the way.

You see this in Naaman, because in 2 KINGS 5:11 (ESV) — “Naaman was angry and went away, saying… ‘I thought that he would surely come out to me…’” he almost missed his moment, not because God was not working, but because it did not happen the way he expected. His pride nearly caused him to walk away from what would heal him.

That is the danger, because when things are not on your terms, you can be tempted to step back instead of step in.

Fear does the same thing. Fear of change, fear of the unknown, fear of letting go. It will cause you to hesitate, and hesitation in the wrong moment can lead to missed opportunities.

You can be right at the door and still choose not to walk through it.

But this is where everything comes into focus, because when you knock on the door of Christ, you are not entering something shallow or temporary. You are stepping into a life that is not built on comfort or control, but on truth.

And that means you have to be ready for what comes with it.

Because when Jesus opens the door, it will not always match what you expected, but it will always be what you need.

This brings it to one clear place, because the question is not whether the door will open, the question is whether you will keep knocking and whether you will be ready when it does.

Because just because the world cannot give you what you need…

does not mean there is no answer.

It means you have been knocking in the wrong place.

So knock on His door.

Stay there.

Do not let pride pull you back, and do not let fear close what God is opening.

Because the door you have been looking for…

is not closed.

And when you knock on the right one, and stay there long enough to trust Him, it will open, and what is on the other side will not just help you for a moment, it will change the direction of your life.
