WHO YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE
PSALM 139:13 (ESV)
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”
There is a difference between who you were living as and who you actually are. You can live like a slave to things that once controlled you, but that does not mean that is your identity anymore. You are not called to remain bound to what you have come out of. You are called to live as a child of God.
The shift happens in how you see yourself, because PROVERBS 23:7 (KJV) — “as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” shows that the way you think will shape the way you live. If your thinking stays rooted in your past, your struggles, or what once defined you, then your life will continue to reflect that, even if it is no longer true.
This is why identity matters, because you can step into something new but still live from something old. You can have freedom available and still think like you are bound.
It is like the eagle raised among chickens. It has the ability to fly, but because of what it has been surrounded by, it continues to live at a level far below what it was created for. The limitation is not in what it is, but in what it believes.
This is where faith comes in, because HEBREWS 11:3 (ESV) — “by faith we understand…” shows that faith shapes how you see. Faith is not just something you say, it is something that changes your perspective. And where faith begins to rise, fear begins to lose its place.
Fear cannot sit where faith is active. If you continue to believe what God says, fear begins to lose its authority over how you think and how you respond.
You will still face storms, but storms are not there to define you, they are places where God is working. Places where your faith is strengthened, where your perspective is shaped, and where what is in you is brought out.
Instead of avoiding the storm, you begin to look for where God is moving in it.
Because your value is not based on what you go through, it is based on who created you. And PSALM 139:13 (ESV) — “you knitted me together in my mother’s womb” shows that your life is intentional. You are not random. You are not an accident. God formed you with purpose, and that means your identity is rooted in Him.
This brings it to one clear place, because the question is not what you have been, but what you are choosing to believe now. You can continue to live from what held you, or you can step into what God says about you and begin to walk in it.
Because you are not who you used to be…
and you are not defined by what you have been through.
You are who God says you are.
And when your thinking aligns with that truth, your life begins to reflect it, because what you believe in your heart will always shape how you live, and when faith takes its place, fear no longer has room to remain.
