FOLLOW HIS VOICE

JOHN 10:3 (ESV)

“The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.”

There are many voices fighting for influence in a person’s life. Fear speaks. Shame speaks. The world speaks. Emotions speak. Temptation speaks. Past wounds speak. Culture constantly pushes people toward confusion, compromise, distraction, and self-dependence. Yet in the middle of all those voices, Jesus says something powerful in JOHN 10:3 (ESV): “The sheep hear his voice.”

That means God still speaks to His people.

Not with confusion.

Not with manipulation.

Not with condemnation.

But as a Shepherd leading those who belong to Him.

One of the greatest challenges believers face is learning to recognise the voice of God above every other voice pulling at their attention. Many people spend years listening more closely to fear, insecurity, pride, pressure, or public opinion than they do to the direction of Christ. Yet the more a person walks closely with Jesus, the more they begin recognising His voice clearly.

A sheep learns the shepherd’s voice through closeness.

Through time spent near him.

Through trust built in relationship.

The same is true spiritually. People do not grow in discernment by staying distant from God. They grow by remaining close to Him through prayer, Scripture, surrender, obedience, and relationship. The closer believers walk with Jesus, the more they begin recognising what aligns with His heart and what does not.

There are also moments where God’s direction may go against what feels comfortable naturally. Sometimes His voice leads people away from environments, habits, relationships, or patterns they once depended on. Sometimes He calls people into uncomfortable growth, deeper surrender, forgiveness, obedience, or trust. Yet the Shepherd never leads His people toward destruction. He leads them toward life.

That is why believers must be careful what voices they continually allow to shape them. The world constantly normalises things God calls people out from. Social pressure, culture, bitterness, pride, comparison, temptation, and compromise can slowly drown out spiritual sensitivity if people are not careful.

But Jesus still leads His people personally.

He still guides.

Still corrects.

Still speaks to hearts that are willing to listen.

And what makes this Scripture beautiful is that Jesus says He “calls his own sheep by name.” God does not lead His people coldly or from a distance. He knows them personally. He sees their struggles, fears, weaknesses, and battles fully, yet continues drawing them forward with patience, grace, and truth.

So stay close to the Shepherd.

Learn His voice through relationship with Him.

And do not allow louder voices around you to pull you away from the One who is truly leading you into life, freedom, wisdom, and peace. Because many voices will try to lead you somewhere, but only the voice of Christ will always lead you where your soul was truly meant to go
