THE WAIT IS NOT WASTED

ISAIAH 40:31 (ESV)

“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of walking with God. People naturally want clarity, movement, answers, and breakthrough quickly. Yet there are seasons where God allows waiting, and those seasons can become deeply frustrating when nothing seems to be changing as fast as expected.

Some people are waiting for healing. Some are waiting for direction. Some are waiting for breakthrough, restoration, provision, or peace. And during those seasons, it can begin feeling like God is silent or distant simply because things are not moving the way we hoped they would.

But ISAIAH 40:31 (ESV) says, “they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.” Scripture does not say waiting is pointless. It shows that God works within people during the waiting, even when they cannot yet fully see what He is doing.

The danger is that people often assume nothing is happening simply because nothing is happening quickly. Yet some of the deepest work God does takes place beneath the surface. Just as roots grow quietly before fruit becomes visible, God often develops faith, endurance, humility, dependence, patience, and trust internally before the breakthrough appears externally.

Waiting also reveals where people place their trust. Some try forcing doors open before God’s timing. Others become discouraged and stop trusting Him altogether. Some return to old habits, old relationships, or old ways of coping because the process feels uncomfortable. Yet rushing ahead of God often creates problems that patience would have avoided.

That is why learning to trust God in the waiting matters so deeply, because waiting with God is not the same as being abandoned by God. Even when progress feels slow, He is still present, still working, and still preparing things people cannot yet fully see. Many times, the waiting season is not only about what God is preparing for you, but what He is preparing within you, because character, dependence, endurance, and spiritual maturity are often formed in seasons where the full picture is still unclear.

The waiting is not wasted.

God is still working.

Still preparing you.

And still moving even when you cannot yet fully see it.

So do not lose heart during the waiting season, and do not mistake silence for absence. In the right time, what God has been building through the process will become visible in ways you could not have understood at the beginning.
