SEEING CLEARLY
2 CORINTHIANS 4:16–18 (ESV)
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
How a person sees will shape how they live, but that is not always easy to recognise in the moment. There are times when what is in front of you feels so real, so heavy, and so constant that it becomes hard to see anything beyond it. Pressure builds, thoughts become louder, and situations begin to feel bigger than they actually are.
2 CORINTHIANS 4:16–18 (ESV) speaks directly into that tension. What is seen feels immediate, but it is temporary. What is unseen may not always be felt, but it is eternal. That means what feels strongest in the moment is not always what is most true.
It is easy to lose heart when everything is being measured by what can be seen. Situations can feel like they will not change. Thoughts can begin to settle in as truth. And slowly, without even realising it, perspective begins to shift in the wrong direction.
This is where truth becomes necessary, not just known, but held onto.
ROMANS 12:2 (ESV) says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
That means the way a person thinks has to be renewed. Not because something is wrong with them, but because without that renewal, it is natural to fall back into what feels familiar, and what feels familiar is not always what is true. Renewal brings clarity, and clarity brings direction.
There is a difference between reacting to what is happening and responding with what is true. Reacting is immediate and often driven by pressure. Responding takes hold of something deeper, something steady, something that does not move with circumstances.
Seeing clearly is not about ignoring what you are going through.
It is about not letting it define everything.
It is about holding onto truth, even when it feels harder to see.
And over time, that is what begins to steady you, even when everything else feels uncertain.
