HE KNOWS YOU IN THE STRUGGLE
PSALM 34:18 (ESV)
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
There are moments in life where things feel heavier than they look on the outside. You can still show up, still function, still get through the day, but internally something feels off, worn down, or unsettled. Not everything breaks loudly. Some things sit quietly and weigh on you over time.
PSALM 34:18 (ESV) speaks into that kind of place, not from a distance, but with clarity. God is not far from the brokenhearted. He is near. Not when everything is fixed, not when everything is back together, but right in the middle of it.
It is easy to believe that struggle creates distance, that when things are not right, God somehow steps back. But the truth is the opposite. The very place that feels most fragile is often where His presence is closest.
That does not always remove the struggle straight away. Situations do not always change instantly. But something begins to shift internally when a person realises they are not alone in it. That the weight they feel is not something they have to carry by themselves.
There is also a tendency to try and hold everything together, to push through, to manage it quietly, and not let anyone see what is really going on. But God already sees. There is nothing hidden from Him, nothing that catches Him off guard, and nothing that disqualifies a person from His nearness.
MATTHEW 11:28 (ESV) says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
That is not a distant invitation. It is a direct one. Not come when everything is sorted, but come as you are, carrying what you are carrying. That means the place of struggle is not where a person pulls away, it is where they are invited to draw closer.
There is no need to pretend strength when things feel heavy.
There is no need to carry everything alone.
There is a place to bring it.
And over time, that is where strength begins to return, not by force, but by being held steady in the middle of it.
