HOW TO HANDLE ANXIETY

Apr 29, 2026

PROVERBS 12:25 (ESV)

“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.”

Anxiety does not always show up loudly. Most of the time it builds quietly, through thoughts, pressure, and things that sit in the background of your mind. Over time, it begins to weigh you down, not just in how you feel, but in how you think, how you respond, and how you move forward.

PROVERBS 12:25 (ESV) describes it clearly, it weighs a person down. That weight can affect everything. It can slow you down, drain your energy, and make situations feel heavier than they actually are. Left unchecked, it does not stay contained, it begins to shape the way you live.

It is easy to try and manage anxiety alone. To carry it, to push through it, to ignore it, or to try and control everything around it. But the problem is not that anxiety exists. The problem is trying to deal with it without bringing it to God.

1 PETER 5:7 (ESV) says, “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

That is not a distant idea, it is a real invitation. Not to pretend it is not there, but to bring it as it is. Not once, but consistently. Because anxiety has a way of returning, and each time it does, there is another opportunity to place it back where it belongs.

There is a difference between holding onto something and handing it over. Holding onto it keeps you in control, but it also keeps the weight on you. Handing it over requires trust, but it begins to shift the burden off your shoulders.

There will still be moments where thoughts build again, where pressure rises, and where things feel unsettled. But in those moments, you are not starting from nothing. You have somewhere to bring it.

Handling anxiety is not about eliminating every anxious thought.

It is about not carrying them alone.

And over time, that is what begins to lighten the weight.
